I was initially taken aback when the author offered an Italian phrase book for a 5-star review. Given that, I was a bit skeptical as I began to read — and learn. I must say that I was pleasantly surprised by the information in this book, and how useful it has been in making the next step to learning Italian. The chapter on "Italianising" English words is alone worth the 5 stars. I have been using free apps to this point, and they have been helpful, but the information in this book had moved me forward in my progress. I do recommend it, and would not have had I not thought it worth it.
I am not sure you will actually LEARN Italian in just 8 hours, but you certainly will know enough to understand basic sentences and make yourself understood. Native Italians will appreciate your efforts to speak their language even if you make mistakes and are a little slow at it (I have found that more recent immigrants who have learned Italian, especially those who are not from Europe, are less tolerant). This book will help you to be understood.
What a terrific overview of learning Italian. But, yes, you can cover this stripped overview in just a few hours, and keep it for real learning and review. No, you won’t really learn Italian in that short period of time—it takes application and work! But it what you need seems to be all here, to ably assist your personal application and work. 5 stars!
Seems like a good summary, but I wonder why there is so much focus on grammar for a method that claims you can learn in just 8 hours. This is not the biggest problem, however. There are many, many typos which result in incorrect or confusing information. I'm still using it, though, since (I think and hope) I have enough background in languages to spot the errors.
I ordered the sample book for my kindle and loved the format. So, ordered the book. Having it on the kindle keeps it nearby for easy reference. I plan to refer to it daily. I am 72, have taken Italian classes throughout the years, and love that now the Italian language is easily at my fingertips. Look forward to receiving The Essential Guide To Italian Travel. I was pleasantly surprised with this book. The title might seem to promise a lot but what it gives you is a great introduction to major the grammar points without being confusing. Ideal for beginners and anyone who can't remember what a noun is :P The general idea is, you learn something, you move on, then you learn something else which INCLUDES what previously being covered. I've never come across any language books that do this, they seem to focus on one area and that's it. This book keeps the pieces together. Loved it!
Loved this course, the process and the instructor's simple Italian language grammar tips. Challenge: Sometimes the Italian speaker is not clear especially with short vowel words like for "I". I had to look it up to clarify what was said. Other than these short words, the pronunciation was fine. Still working on the course.
This is the pertfect quick learning tool when traveling. My husband and I are going to Italy this summer and this book has helped me "cram" for my trip!!
