As I’ve said before, as a physics and math teacher I love this series of books. I wish it would have been around when my kids were babies.Of the books in the series, this is probably my least favorite, though I still enjoy it. Like the other books in the series it takes complex ideas and presents them simply with nice diagrams. I think I like the other books more because they take a fun approach to fields of physics that are more complex and conceptual. Even recognizing that I’m talking about baby books, this one seems simpler because in a sense it’s covering something more practical. I prefer the theoretical.Still, as I’ve said, I think sharing these books with your baby may generate an interest in science. That makes them worthwhile.
I bought this book for my 1 year old and my husband to enjoy together. Since he’s an engineer with some experience in aerospace I thought he’d enjoy this, but he quickly pointed out that the book isn’t accurate. I’m not sure if it’s inaccurate in an attempt to simplify concepts, but it just doesn’t work when you read through it. Plus, the illustrations are underwhelming. Good idea, but it needs a better execution.
This book couldn't decide if it was about aerospace or rocket science. It mentioned putting wings on rockets traveling in space, which is inaccurate. The concepts of lift and drag do not make sense in space. I like the idea of introducing science to babies and young children, but it defetes the purpose if it is incorrect.
I'm a meteorologist and my sister is a mechanical engineer, so when I came across this series of books while shopping for my new nephew, I had to grab them all. While the illustrations are minimalist, it doesn't matter because this is for an infant. They're solidly constructed to where a baby can't destroy them. They're honestly more about being a nerd and giving them to other nerd parents. My sister thinks they're great and these should last for many more nieces and nephews to come. Science!
My three year old granddaughter and four year old grandson both enjoy reading the books in this series over and over. It's very helpful to get them exposed to the vocabulary and concepts of the science contained in the books. I need to come up with some hands on ways of physically showing them the concepts presented. I can tell that they are learning because after about the third consecutive reading their brain gets tired and they are ready for a break, but that doesn't stop them from bringing the books back to me later in the day to read again. My grandson has the words on the pages memorized and will hopefully begin to start actually reading the words.
My almost three year old son enjoys this book, mostly because it has a rocket in it. =] The book explains how different shapes + airflow do or do not result in lift. Also talks about energy help propelling an object forward. Simple illustrations and concepts. Wish they had a kite version.
Should be called Arospace for Babies.Additionally, the text suggests burning fuel is to "make it explode."
Love the concept of introducing science to young children but the illustrations are really lame and honestly felt lazy on the part of the author. My son just tosses it aside because the picures arent engaging. I preferred the "baby loves" series. My one year old likes Baby Loves Quarks the best.
