I highly recommend this book to anyone dealing with the verbal and emotional abuse or know someone who is suffering under its effects. It is informative with Biblical references that expresses God’s truth and instruction with regard to the way we are to treat one another.The book is concise and easy to understand. It is packed with strategies that confront abusive words and behaviors, strategies that maintain the dignity of the person using them and the one towards whom they are directed. It is also packed with strategies that are part of the "caring for oneself" and healing process.Verbal and emotional abuse are just as destructive as physical abuse, if not more so, because they injure and scar the heart and soul of the individual — mostly remaining unseen to the undiscerning eye (see Up! FROM ABUSE). As June Hunt points out, there is far less help and treatment available for sufferers of this kind of abuse. For this reason alone, it’s important that we know about and understand the faces, characteristics, and behaviors of verbal and emotional abuse so we can recognize its symptoms and offer help to our loved ones, friends, and colleagues being abused. This book does just that, excellently.

This book will equip you no matter what you've been through, whether you've been through little or been through a lot. I liked the length of this book and the examples of certain unhealthy thinking or speaking patterns and other statements to watch out for. At some point in our life, we're all guilty of saying something that has hurt someone's feelings. This book has great advice for everyone, whether you are the person who finds yourself stuck in a rut of saying the wrong thing at the wrong time or if you find yourself not knowing what to do or how to respond to someone who shoots out words of painful fiery arrows. While we can't control what other people say, we can get a better grasp onto how to respond with peace, forgiveness, and grace. This book will give you specific, more healthy word patterns to practice. I found this book refreshing and uplifting. It's perfect for psychologists and for everyday common people.

This book is a good start to your journey of healing. It doesn't dive deep into the issue but is a great quick dose of reality. My favorite part is that it is good for people on both sides of the abuse- the abuser and abused. Unfortunately most times they're the same. So I like that both parts can get help here.

This little booklet defines verbal and emotional abuse; gives examples, and Scripture to get my head turned in the right direction for what is really true and right. It also gives hope that you can overcome this very painful situation through healing and forgiveness. I HIGHLY recommend it and have purchased it for each of my 7 children.
