my step daughter loved this because it is a work book with exercises to do and questions to answer. she is 17 and knows how to thinkdeeply. Not so good for younger teens who have not learned the inner thinking.
I have a 13yr boy. It is very doable for him to work on 1 lesson a day. He is getting a lot out of it. Better self image and self talk
So many things to like about this workbook. I am a big fan of DBT skills, as I learned them myself last year. It is truly awesome that my daughter can learn the same skills and I can help reinforce them by us "speaking" the same DBT language. Each chapter is filled with valuable information, great teenager examples, and opportunities to practice what they are learning. I tried to view it as your typical teen girl that doesn't like much of what mom recommends. Honestly, it is one of the better ones out there that is relevant, not too "technical" or full of "psychobabble." I was not compensated for my review.
LOVE LOVE LOVE this book...! Love that it has activities to do in the book, and child can write in it....also, was pretty fun to read together and work on activities together as a game... My Teen loved it... said that this explains so well on have he feels, but also it goes them practice or ideas how to redirect yourself or how to work on yourself ...HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS BOOK. (My Son is 12 year old)
I purchased both this workbook and the anger workbook and started on this one first. So far it has already helped immensely. I'm having an easier time learning to control my emotions and take a different approach than i was before. I'm someone who was diagnosed with bipolar disorder, severe depression, anxiety, adhd, and rage. I take medication and have for years but nothing seemed to help, so you can imagine the ups and downs i go through every single day of my life. I didn't know if this book would help but i was desperate. My problems affected my relationships, ability to work, ability to communicate without either crying, outbursts, screaming, or sarcasm. Since going through just the "mindfulness" chapter alone, my boyfriend and I haven't fought in a week, I don't get mad or irritated so easily, I don't really swear now. At first it was a little difficult because controlling my emotions, I didn't have an outlet for my rage and that was a problem, but I didn't let it affect how I treated people and that was huge for me. I'm very pleased with my progress and otters have noticed as well. It's an excellent workbook. I highly recommend it.
I like this, at times repetitive, but this may be what's needed. Our teenager is exploring each exercise as part of her home schoolcurriculum health class. Recommended...opens up opportunities for good discussions
