These are great books and the author is super-talented, however, my review of the faith in Book One stands true here, as well, if not more so. Categorized as Christian Fiction, the “faith†in this is even more mixed up than in the first one. You say you don’t believe in God and then say “Oh, my God!†when in trouble and beg “the universe†to help you. Confused.Samantha, the one with faith in Book One, is still praying (yay!) but pretty much everyone else is all over the spiritual map. It’s actually true to life but makes the reader wonder what, in this instance, is the definition of “Christianâ€.Good enough to sell me on Book 3 & 4. Just want to pass along the perspective of a believing reader.
I will not restate the plot nor reveal any spoilers in this review.While Twisted Lies is a stand alone story, a reader will miss the backstory to the H if he/she has not read Convenient Lies. Although I had read the first book in the series, I had a hard time following this one. Nate is a reporter who is introduced in Convenient Lies. Without reading the background of his kidnapping in book 1, a reader will flounder with understanding his character, the many references made to this event and the subsequent emotional fall out. As much as I raved about Robin Patchen's first book, this book fell short of my expectations. IMHO, Twisted Lies is not a stand-alone book. It is very well written and has a great plot, however. If you read book 1, Twisted Lies is a great book. If you don't, it's downgraded to okay.

He's decided to quit his work as a newspaper reporter and move home where he has family and friends. Before he can move he gets embroiled in another crazy-scary mystery. A woman, Marisa, he helped 8 years prior needs his help again. If she wasn't gorgeous and unforgettable, he may not be brave enough!"Twisted Lies", Book 2 of a series stands alone well, and doesn't need to be read in the correct order, to be enjoyed. These are warm family and friendship stories with just enough criminality to be suspenseful. The characterizations are well done, and the storyline is fast moving. The four-year-old little girl, Ana, is darling. Marisa's "sweet pajarita". This is an engaging and pleasurable read!
Fast moving, suspenseful, a bit of fun, romance, clean, sometimes scary, a bit of whimsy, interesting characters.... it keeps interest! I'm hooked, and want to read the next one. One of my pet peeves in a book is when the author says the same thing over and over again, as if the reader doesn't have a brain to remember what was said before. This went that way a few times, but the story is so good, all's forgiven.
let me tell you, don't start this book thinking you'll read a couple of chapters and lay it down and go to sleep. No siree. I started it at 8 p.m. and at 11:30, I'm thinking, I really need to go to sleep...just one more chapter...and that turned into The End at 12:40 a.m. So be warned.Convenient Lies drew me in immediately. The book opened with Reagan McAdams taking her twelve-day-old baby and fleeing her husband. I had to find out why. Then I had to find out if she would escape his reach. And how Tom Brady (no, not that Tom Brady) would help her. And why did she run away from Tom in the first place? He was her one true love. Robin answers those questions and more in this taut, fast-paced suspense. Oh, and there's a search for gold coins that figures into the story. This was my first Robin Patchen book, but it won't be my last. In fact, I already have Twisted Lies downloaded.
If you are a fan of romantic suspense, this is the series for you. Twisted Lies brings back a few characters from Convenient Lies. This story focuses on Nate Boyle as he reunites with Marisa Vega. Marisa had disappeared for many years after her fiance was killed and she was accused of stealing money. Now Marisa is back as someone kidnaps her daughter in an effort to get the money. Only Marisa never took the money, and Nate works to help Marisa find her daughter and clear her name.The story starts off with an intriguing premise and lots of suspense. Nate's character struggles with his past, but his struggles make him real and likable. He's not a detective or police officer, he's a reporter who seems to get pulled into dangerous situations. He has to choose to be brave in the face of trials. He puts his life on the line to protect Marisa and bring about justice.Twisted Lies will keep you hooked to the end with suspense and likable, memorable characters. I'm looking forward to reading the next in the series!
Author Patchen sure has a flair for writing a story that holds your interest from cover to cover. This is the second book of the series and I definitely hope she writes many more. I love a series that makes a connection from one book to the next, continues to develop the characters and the story line. Seeing how the characters progress in each new book makes me as a reader feel so much like I am part of the story. You feel like you can sit down next to any of the main characters and feel right at home. I would recommend this series to anyone who likes to read A good mystery including youngsters in this case.
Twisted Lies, written by Robin Patchen, is the second book in the Hidden Truth series and the second Patchen book I've read.Wowser! If you like suspense and mystery, these books are for you. Edge of the seat suspense. No problem turning the pages as I wanted to know what was going to happen next.I think my favorite character, NATE! What a guy! He was the ever ready guy to give up all for those he cared about. Who wouldn't want that kind of person in their life.Thoroughly enjoy this series and can't wait to get the rest of the series!
